Cambodian Alumni Conduct a Two-Day Workshop with English Access Microscholarship Students in Kampong Thom Province

Students were asked to designed mini-projects on environmental theme, which they will implement together at their community with the assistance from the alumni.

On September 25th and 26th, 2010, 9 alumni of the Study of the United States Institute (SUSI), the Undergraduate Intensive English Language Program (UIELP), and the Global Undergraduate Program (UGRAD) organized a workshop on "Youth Education Outreach Program".  41 English Access Microscholarship students and alumni attended the workshop in Baray High School of Baray District, Kampong Thom Province. 

The goals of this workshop are to build youth capacity in students’ academic and non-academic background as well as to motivate their love of nature and environment. Students learned about how to study English Language effectively, factors to consider in choosing university majors, and ways to preserve the environment.

Activities consisted of short role plays, presentations, experience-sharing sessions, team-building, and group discussions. Students were asked to designed mini-projects on environmental theme, which they will implement together at their community with the assistance from the alumni.  Results of this mini-project will be presented in future workshops with all the group of the English Access Microscholarship students from other provinces.

The U.S. Embassy Representatives welcomed the participants, introduced U.S. Department of State funded exchange programs and encourage students to continue their project. Representatives from the school and the partner organizations also attended the workshop.
