Ambassador Mussomeli bids farewell to students and faculty at Pannasastra University

Pannasastra University of Cambodia, Phnom Penh
August 18, 2008

On the 18th of August, 2008 Ambassador Mussomeli delivered a speech and held an hour-long Q&A session with close to 600 students from Phnom Penh’s Pannasastra University. In a wide ranging discussion the Ambassador reminisced about his three years in the country, and touched on the major issues which affect our bilateral relationship including corruption, rule of law, and impunity. He also painted a positive picture of Cambodia’s future, stressing that the country can be an positive example of a democratic society for the rest of the region in the next ten years, and that continued political stability will increase investment and economic opportunities. A number of students posed tough questions to the Ambassador, but some struck a lighter note by asking what message he will bring to the U.S. about Cambodia upon his return. The Ambassador responded by saying that he continually warns Americans that Cambodia is a dangerous country - once you come here you will fall in love with it and never want to leave.
