Cultural Visitors and Arts Management Fellows Mentoring Program

Washington D.C.
September 19 – October 4, 2009

The Public Affairs Office in Phnom Penh recently nominated Miss Chanmoly Vuth to be Cambodia’s representative in the 2009 Cultural Visitors and Arts Management Fellows Program taking place in Washington D.C.  The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) in partnership with the Kennedy Center, started the program several years ago which offers professional development opportunities to emerging young artists in the performing arts.  The project activities include a two-week U.S.-based training program for foreign artists and dancers.

“Moly” as she is known traveled from Phnom Penh to Washington D.C. on September 14th to take part in the Modern Dance portion of the program.  Participants in the program had the opportunity to further their knowledge of modern dance technique through demonstrations, private lessons, and open classes with representatives from major modern dance traditions in the United States including such big names as the Mark Morris Company and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre.  All of the 2009 programs were designed to broaden the visitors’ artistic development and strengthen their host institutions by building sustainable linkages and relationships with American individuals and institutions.  For more information on this program please go to the Kennedy Center’s website at: http://www.kennedy-center.org/education/state/cultura.  In her short time there, Moly has already been praised by the program organizers for her active and outstanding participation in the program.
