Placebo, The Click Five, Preap Sovath And Pou Khliang to Perform at MTV EXIT Concerts Across Cambodia to Raise Awareness and Increase Prevention of Human Trafficking

Phnom Penh
November 2008

The UK rock band Placebo today joined a host of other international and local artists performing at a historic MTV EXIT concert to raise awareness and increase prevention of human trafficking, a crime impacting millions of people worldwide. The concert will be held at Angkor Wat in Cambodia on 7 December and is the first-ever rock concert to be staged at the temple.

Duncan Sheik, a multiple Tony- and Grammy-Award winner, and Australian pop sensation Kate Miller-Heidke today also confirmed performances at the concert that features the US group The Click Five and some of Cambodia’s biggest recording artists including Pou Khliang.

The Angkor Wat show is part of an exciting nation-wide concert tour kicking-off on 22 November at Ochheuteal Beach in Sihanoukville, followed by 29 November at the Football Stadium in Kampong Cham.  The final concert will be held at Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh on December 12 in recognition of Cambodia’s National Day to Combat Human Trafficking, featuring Cambodian pop star, Preap Sovath.

MTV EXIT (End Exploitation and Trafficking) is a project of the MTV Europe Foundation -- a London-based registered charity – to raise awareness and increase prevention of human trafficking and exploitation. MTV EXIT in Asia is produced in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

“We are incredibly proud to perform at this important concert,” the members of Placebo said. “We hope that through our music and involvement in this event and the MTV EXIT campaign that millions of people learn about this tragic form of slavery.”

“Music can be an incredible force for change and through this special concert and the other events that MTV EXIT will be holding across Cambodia and Asia, this force will empower young people and their peers to avoid trafficking” said Simon Goff, MTV EXIT’s Director.

MTV EXIT is collaborating with the Royal Government of Cambodia’s National Task Force on Human Trafficking, as well as a number of non-governmental organizations to organize the Cambodian concert tour. The event tour is being produced in partnership with Cambodia Advance Communications (qb) and Bayon Radio & Television.

The concert tour will provide content for a series of television programmes produced by MTV EXIT to be broadcast in Cambodia and on MTV channels internationally. These specials will combine concert footage with important information about human trafficking. All MTV EXIT television programming is produced rights-free and free of charge for all broadcasters and organisations.
