Press availability with Ambassador for War Crimes Issues Stephen Rapp
Released in Phnom Penh, June 27, 2011
U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues, Stephen Rapp, is in Cambodia to attend the opening hearings of Case 002 at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC). On his last visit to Phnom Penh in January, Ambassador Rapp called Case 002 “the most important trial in the world.” This trial of the four most senior surviving leaders of the Khmer Rouge regime has also been identified as a high priority by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. During his visit, Ambassador Rapp will consult with court officers and other interested parties to discuss the support needed for the ECCC to fulfill its mandate.
Following his meetings, Ambassador Rapp will hold a briefing with members of the media on Tuesday, June 28, at 3:30 pm, at the Sunway Hotel (Mekong 2 conference room). During this briefing, Ambassador Rapp will make a short statement and then be available for questions from the media. Members of the media should be in place no later than 3:15 pm.
