Internet Access
The IRC staff surfs the internet daily to stay up to date on web resources in the areas of law, economics, journalism, the environment, international relations and American Studies. They can assist with searches for information on research topics in these subject areas.
Reference Books
The IRC maintains a special collection of around 500 non-fiction and reference books on the United States, ranging from the U.S. Government, politics, international relations, legal system, history, literature, human rights and democracy. The IRC is constantly adding to its collection.
CD-ROMs
The IRC has a growing CD-ROM collection on a diverse range of topics related to the United States.
- Administrative and Cost of Election Project CD-ROM: a user friendly information resource on all aspects of organizing elections.
- Encyclopedia Britannica: the most timely and comprehensive CD-ROM encyclopedia that cover over 73,000 articles.
- Environmental: a computer based Environmental Assessment Guide covering major activities that is required for successful EA from the U.S. experience.
- Funk and Wagnalls Unabridged Encyclopedia: a searchable CD-ROM with over 25,000 informative articles and over 10,000 media items, including photographs, maps, flags, sounds, speeches, and music.
- Information USA: an authoritative resource for information about the U.S. policies, American society, culture, and political processes.
- United States of the United States Code: a searchable CD-ROM containing the general and permanent law.
- U.S. Academic Explorer: a fun and easy to use CD-ROM that provides a broad overview of the U.S. education system.
Online Database
The IRC has access to major online databases in the United States.
- Factiva: Provides full text of current news in economics and trade of the U.S. State Department, company profiles and news updates services.
- Lexis-Nexis: Provides online full-text legal, news and business information from over 3,200 legal and business publications.
Periodicals
The IRC subscribes to approximately 36 hard copy periodicals covering a wide range of subject areas.
