U.S. Embassy and the Ministry of Information Join Forces to Train Royal Government Spokespersons
Ministry of Information
July 09, 2009
H.E. Khieu Kanharith and Embassy representatives opened the first-ever spokesperson training course for Cambodian officials on the morning of July 9th at the Ministry of Information. The two week course is being led by Ms. Tammy Van Dame, a media trainer who has extensive experience with the State Police and Armed Forces in the U.S.. Logically the first group of trainees hail from the Ministries of Interior and National Defense. The second week of training will involve representatives from a host of other ministries including Foreign Affairs, Commerce, and Agriculture. In her training Ms. Van Dame focuses on message management, the relationship between the government and the media and how to run an effective press office. She also provides practical tests for the participants including mock on-camera interviews and “murder boards” which gauges their ability to handle tough questions. This the training signals the beginning of what the Embassy hopes will be a long term program designed to build capacity amongst the public affairs officials in the Royal Government.
