Secretary Clinton Meets the Cambodian Public

About 600 young people from high schools, colleges, universities and civil society organizations came to see US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton in a town hall meeting at Chaktamuk Conference Hall during her visit to Phnom Penh on November 1st. After a rousing welcome from the crowd, Secretary Clinton spoke about how impressed she was with her visit to the temples of Siem Reap the day before, and her feelings about seeing recent Cambodian history faced so honestly at the Tuol Sleng Museum of Genocide. The questions for Secretary Clinton came from high school and university students in Phnom Penh, civil society group members, and from English club students at the American Corner in Battambang Province. Secretary Clinton praised the students on their insightful questions and their command of English, and left the auditorium hopeful for the future and impressed with Cambodian youth.
