Ambassadors old and new recognize Veteran’s Day at the Embassy

US Embassy, Phnom Penh
November 13, 2008

Newly arrived Ambassador-designate Carol Rodley joined former Ambassador to Cambodia Charles Ray in a ceremony on November 13th designed to recognize the service and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans and their role in protecting our way of life.  Ambassador Ray, a 20-year veteran of the military himself, is currently the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for POW/Missing Personnel Affairs and was in Cambodia on related business.   In his remarks he expressed his heartfelt thanks to the assembled staff for their service, many of whom are active members of the military.  He also voiced his hope that there would come a day when we would recognize veterans only of past conflicts, and that we would see a time of peace in our future.  Veteran’s Day is annually recognized in the U.S. and falls on November 11th, the day that the Armistice was signed officially ending World War I, the “war to end all wars”.
