On July 21 Ambassador Carol A. Speaking in the presence of members of the Royal Cambodian Navy, Ambassador Rodley thanked Rear Admiral Seyha for his warm welcome to the naval base and expressed how impressed she was with the Royal Cambodian Navy’s efforts to strengthen the country’s maritime security.

The Ambassador said she was pleased with the training taking place between the U.S. and Royal Cambodian navies. “The trainings will push for peacekeeping and stability,” said Ambassador Rodley. “And it’s not just a one-way training where only the Royal Cambodian Navy benefits, it’s a two-way training because both the U.S. and Cambodian Navy benefit. The U.S. Navy is learning how to operate in the environment here in Cambodia and are benefitting from that,” she said.

Rear Admiral Seyha agreed and said, “These series of trainings are important for capacity building and gaining technical experience.”

Following her remarks to the Royal Cambodian Navy, Ambassador Rodley toured Ream Naval Base with Rear Admiral Seyha.

Currently, U.S. Navy divers and maintenance personnel are docked at Ream Naval Base to conduct a series of on-going trainings, which include diving and rescue trainings as well as ship maintenance workshops led by the U.S. Navy.
